Stanford Provides Free Bike Lights

Apparently the word is out: a good way to get people to ride bikes is to make it cheaper. We just reported on Ontario’s decision to make bicycles and safety accessories exempt from sales tax. Now, as reported by cyclelicio.us, Stanford University has gotten in on the act by passing out 200 free bicycle lights and Jamba Juice smoothies.

The Associated Students of Stanford University (their student government) sponsored the initiative to promote safe night-riding.

The typically compact nature of a university with its network of paths and bike-friendly roads make campuses an ideal place for bicycle commuting. Add free lights to the equation (and beautiful California weather), and Stanford should see an increase in safe, round-the-clock ridership.
