Here’s a depiction of the world’s oil sources and consumption. Energy is our most sought-after resource, and the problem is exarcebated by driving cars. Shouldn’t be too hard to look at this map and see some tie-ins with where the U.S. invests its energies.and goes to war.

Having been to Copenhagen in the late 1990s, it is very noticeable that it is a very bike friendly city. Columns of bikes two or three wide are at major intersections taking off as the light changes without having to worry (too much) about cars with wide designated bike lanes was really something to see.
Motorized vehicle traffic was relatively light, and when one imagined what it would be like if all these bikers were in cars (just like any other noisy, congested city boulevard) and the impact of bikes is clear. There are many, many places here in US where the climate is mild enough for the same. It is very nice to see, though, that even though a very bike friendly place, in Copenhagen, they seem to be doing more, to make the bike the norm rather than the exception as it is in most large cities.
