The State of Connecticut's Governor, Jodi Rell wants to break up the Department of Transportation and establish other departments such as mass tranportation and port authority claiming the DOT is too single minded (highway and cars). The State has already bought many used railroad cars and refurbished them. The more they put out there, the more the ridership increases. Just a little math note. I and many other veterans my age (old) get much of our medical treatment At the Newington VA Clinic. When we need specialist care we have to travel a distance of about 40 miles to the West Haven, Ct. VA Hospital. No problem. The VA runs mini buses six trips a day five days a week carrying about a dozen people a trip. Anyone feel like doing the gas savings on that? And it's a nice social ride.
