My family has taken Amtrak across the country several times. In the day or two it takes to get anywhere, you have nothing to do. Nothing is expected of you. You can't talk to anyone and get on an earlier train. You just have some time to talk, take a nap, plan a game, watch a movie, read a book. In our busy world, it is rare to really have nothing to do. We arive at our destination really rested. The chief disadvantage of train travel, the speed, is actually its chief advantage too. - John Nalezny

Californians, this November 2008 vote yes to fund high speed rail in California!!!
Imagine, a train that takes you between SF and LA in 2.5 hours for less than the price of flying!!! - brian goldner
