U.K. Alliance Fights 4x4s on Urban Streets Print E-mail

The U.K.-based group The Alliance Against Urban 4x4’s is taking a stand against superfluous sports utility vehicles. Their blog, photos, demonstrations, and videos share a quirky sense of humor but take pollution seriously. The Alliance reveals the dangers and environmental damage of 4x4 vehicles, and their sheer ridiculousness—especially on crowded, narrow city roads, and their popularity in a time of climate change and ecological crisis.

In the video below, after the jump, The Alliance stages a street-side “mudwash,” which they offer free of charge to drivers of 4x4s, so that their cars might look more “authentic,” as though they’ve spend the day off-roading in the wilderness.

Another video shows Alliance members issuing pseudo parking tickets to 4x4-driving offenders.

The Alliance also offers this clip, which reveals the perils of urban driving, and the on-road obstacles that these monster vehicles must overcome.

First yes I saw the video's, but turned it off when I realized it was college kids without a life. While I ride my bike a lot, my car is a 4x4 Mid size truck. Do I "need" it on a daily basis? No. Do I want it? yes. will I give it up? Maybe, only if it means I won't have enough money to put the kids through private school. No, Redcoat, or red blooded American for that matter, pubescent college boy or girl that doesn't have a real life and noting better to do than harass people in their cars will never convince me to get rid of my truck. But high gas prices and my 4 and 5 yr old sons will. I will say this its the safest thing on the road when it is a wet/slimy or icy road day. smilies/cool.gif

So if I try and make you keep it, will you give it up then?

Should You Get a Carectomy?

Cars are the most inconvenient convenience we have. We're required to have them, but increasingly, we dislike them. At Carectomy, we're trying to figure out how to extract cars from people.

The operation is a little bit painful, but life afterward is much more awesome. If you're interested in carectomies, sign up to our newsletter, or subscribe our RSS feed below.
