Copenhagen Girls on Bikes Gone Wild!

Copenhagen01 Copenhagen Girls on Bikes Gone Wild!

Ok, well perhaps not “wild.” The Copenhagen Cycle Chic blogsite is a celebration of women astride their trusty steeds. The site’s tagline: Bike advocacy in high heels, from the world’s cycling capital.

The content ranges from cycling information with fashion style to poetry.

From Copenhagen Cycle Chic:

In the morning backlightaciousness, she coasted casually towards the red light. Timing it perfectly, for when the light turned green, she casually sped up again without having to stop.

The best part, of course, is the beautiful images and the truth that lies behind them. Cycling in Copenhagen, and in most of the world, is a practical transportation solution that most people participate in without a second thought. It’s not an elitist activity reserved for spandex-clad racer-types – it’s something you do to get to work, pick up some flowers, or go grocery shopping. A woman fashionably dressed-to-impress aboard a bicycle reveals just how practical riding a bike can be.

From Copenhagen Cycle Chic:

On a global scale, obesity now causes more deaths than famine, but Danish women are keeping slim.

A recent study showed that only 9.1% of Danish women are obese. Only Italy (7.9%) and Austria (8.6%) have a better statistic. In comparison, the UK can’t be proud about the fact that 23% of British women are obese – the country is at the bottom among EU nations.

The Danish Cyclist’s Union [DCF] isn’t in doubt for a moment:
"In Denmark we have a well-developed bike culture, and that is one of the reasons for the high ranking on the list," says Jens Loft Rasmussen from the DCF.

I’d rather use my bike pedal than my Lexus clutch just to eased the load…
