Toronto-based I Bike To has the right approach to getting more butts on bicycles. Their “Bike Friday” initiative encourages people to form bike-pools once a week.
From I Bike To Blog:
Cyclists meet in the early morning to ride down together and form a BikePool – a lot like what the other guys have but without the gas-guzzling and steel cages.
The website organizes bike pool routes and allows riders to sign up and take part. One of the advantages of riding in a group like this is the safety that numbers bring to the riders. More experienced riders can introduce new cyclists to the joys of bike commuting in a safe, non-intimidating fashion.
I Bike To also offers discussion forums for cycling topics and links to community events such as the local Critical Mass and basic bike repair classes.
