No, I’m not endorsing bank robberies. (Kids – don’t try this at home!) But this latest story does prove the versatility of the bicycle.
From Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Sometimes he wears a hoodie. Other times he has on a cap or something that resembles a fishing hat. On occasion, the ruddy-faced, hooked-nosed man has on eyeglasses. He has been seen wearing a wig. "He’s a serial bank robber," said FBI spokesman Steve Emmett. But it’s his getaway that sets him apart: He makes his escape on a bicycle.
The Bike Bandit has robbed nine banks in the Atlanta area, including five Bank of Americas. He has never pulled out a weapon; he merely slips the cashier a note demanding money, saunters out, and peels out on his getaway-bike.
The bike portion of the escape appears to be short-lived, however. The Bandit’s M.O. appears to be stealing a bike and using it only for the initial getaway. For most of the robberies, it’s believed that he then ditches the bike and hops into his light blue Chrysler mini-van.
Is it just me or are both the method of robbery (the note-slipping, not the biking) and the Bandit’s appearance eerily reminiscent of Woody Allen’s Take the Money and Run?
